Pompeani elected to hall of fame

Leanne Pompeani left a lasting legacy on the Iowa Central cross country program.

Now, she will be enshrined on the NJCAA level.

Pompeani will be inducted into the NJCAA Cross Country and Track and Field Coaches Association Hall of Fame for 2021-22.

Joining the former Triton will be coaches Curtis Vais, Bill Smith and Kim Renas.

During the 2015-16 seasons, Pompeani won the NJCAA Div. I cross country title twice, was a two-time NJCAA Half Marathon champion and earned the USTFCCCA Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year award. She also set several school records along the way.

Pompeani's run continued in track where she was the USTFCCCA Indoor and Outdoor Female Track and Field Athlete of the Year in 2016, the NJCAA Women's Indoor Track and Field national champion in the 3K and 5K and swept both outdoor tracks.

She now competes for her home country of Australia.
