Tritons take care of Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Iowa Central rugby team started their busy weekend with a convincing 68-7 victory over Nebraska here.

The Tritons will turn right around and head to Iowa on Saturday.

"It is really a true testament to the state of our program that we can pull something like this off," Iowa Central head coach Brent Nelson said. "To split our squad and play two matches in two different states over two days, these guys are going to be a tired bunch. But we want to push them so we can be at our best later on."

Tony Robinson had four tries and Andrew Thexton two, with Christian Stanback converting three kicks. Aris Mitchell, Jeremiah Bates, Ethan Wilson, Christopher Santos and Phoenix Twala each had one.

"Tony and Andrew each had great games," Nelson said. "They were really slicing and dicing the defense up."

Nelson also noted that alumni of the Nebraska program were in attendance and took notice of the team.

"This was sort of a showcase match for their alumni weekend," he said. "We could hear some of them talking about the talent and skill of our boys, which was great to hear."

Iowa Central will face the Hawkeyes in both A-side and B-side matches beginning at 1 p.m. in Iowa City.
