Tritons to 'test mettle' with matches

The Iowa Central rugby team is set for an interesting - and long - two days of action.

On Friday night, the Tritons will square off with Nebraska in Lincoln. They follow that up by hitting the road for a date Saturday with Iowa.

And while the squad will be split between the two, it will be a test that Brent Nelson is excited to give his team.

"We scheduled this weekend as a way to kind of test our mettle," Nelson said. "This is a tremendous opportunity for the kids ahead of a big-time match next weekend at home with Davenport. We obviously aren't overlooking Nebraska or Iowa, but using this as a way to see where we are at.

"I've felt like we are deep at every position, and doing this with back-to-back matches on the road is going to test that."

The majority of the roster for the match with the Hawkeye will consist of players from within the state. Iowa Central will also be getting Aidan Farrell and Harrison Dalton back together on the pitch.

"We feel pretty interchangeable with the pieces we have," Nelson said. "It's going to come down to the little things such as attitude, school work and practice. We have preached that the little things will make you successful in life and you cannot overlook them."

The match with Nebraska begins at 7 p.m. with the Iowa match starting at 1 p.m. in Iowa City. There will also be a B-side match with the Hawkeyes.
