Iowa Central opens season at Yellowjacket Open Saturday

The Iowa Central wrestling team will begin their season on Saturday at the Yellowjacket Open hosted by Rochester Tech.

In the recent preseason poll released for the ICCAC, the Tritons were selected as the favorites to capture the conference title. Iowa Central was the highest placing finisher at nationals in the spring from the league, sending four to the finals and earning a third place finish.

Indian Hills won the Central District championship and is the highest ranked team in the NJCAA preseason poll from the region, starting the year fifth. North Iowa Area is seventh, Iowa Western ninth, Iowa Central 10th, Iowa Lakes 16th and Ellsworth 20th.

Aidan Harris is ranked fifth at 133 pounds and Jorden Pryor starts the year No. 1 at heavyweight for the Tritons. Pryor reached the finals in the spring and Harris placed fourth overall at nationals.

Iowa Central will head to Ottumwa on Wednesday for its first dual of the year vs. Indian Hills. They will also compete in Des Moines next weekend at the Grand View Open before hosting NIACC on Tuesday, November 16 inside Hodges Fieldhouse. 

Other scheduled home duals include on Thursday, December 2 vs. Iowa Lakes and Wednesday, February 2 vs. Indian Hills. 

The NJCAA Championships are set for March 4-5 in Council Bluffs.
