Tritons claim four titles at opener

ROCHESTER, Minn. - Four wrestlers claimed titles for Iowa Central here Saturday at the Yellowjacket Open.

Fort Dodge Senior High graduate Lane Cowell, Hayden Halter, Keaton Geerts and Josh Ramirez all won their weight brackets for the Tritons. 

Jace Luchau and Trevion Sample were third, Nolan Miller-Johnston placed fourth, Aidan Harris was sixth and both Amir Pierce and Kade Campbell finished eighth.

Cowell won all three of his bouts at 125 pounds in his first appearance with Iowa Central. He scored three straight decisions, including an 11-9 victory over Ethan Higgins of Minnesota West in the finals.

Halter placed first at 133 pounds, earning three falls and a technical fall. All three of his pins came in the first period, including a 37-second win in the quarterfinals.

Geerts, a returning wrestler for the Tritons, claimed three falls, a technical fall and a major decision at 157 pounds. In the finals, he pinned Drake Hayward of Minnesota-Mankato in 87 seconds.

Ramirez scored two falls and two decisions to win the 165-pound bracket. 

Iowa Central will begin ICCAC dual action on Wednesday in Centerville against Indian Hills.
